We created them. And now they rule us...

The world has changed. Wars and terrible weapons have decimated the global population. Originally designed for war, genetically modified super-beings have risen to the top, living in relative safety in the city of Haven.

Divided into two parts, the city is home to the genetically superior Enhanced, and the inferior Unenhanced normal humans now subjugated and controlled. It’s a brutal world of divides. An unyielding system of class. The strong rise and the weak fall. That is the new world.

Brie Melrose is just a normal girl of 18. She grew up an orphan, and her life was never deemed likely to amount to anything.

One day, however, a routine job turns into something much more, and Brie finds herself under the watchful eye of the Savants, the highest order of the Enhanced. Blessed with supreme intellect, they consider emotions to be pointless.

And, in some cases, dangerous…

For Brie, coming face to face with a Savant is a rare thing indeed. And soon, something even rarer is about to occur she is to be invited into Inner Haven, the sanctuary of the Enhanced where she’ll come into contact with some strange and dangerous people.

People who want things from her. People who know things about her past.

Soon, threats she never even knew existed will close in, and Brie will learn that her world, and the city of Haven, isn’t quite what she thought it was.

And neither is she…

The Enhanced is the first in a planned series. It ends in a fairly significant cliffhanger, so be warned! However, new instalments will be released every few weeks, so you’ll never have to wait long to find out what happens next!

Fans of the Hunger Games, Divergent, and the Maze Runner will love this new dystopian world, a place of brutality, danger, and secrets where the strong rule the weak and there’s conflict around every turn. A mixture of YA dystopian, sci fi thriller, mystery, and romance, every page will leave you wanting more!

Note The book is written in British English.

Book Two - Hybrid - is available now!

The Enhanced Book One in The Enhanced Series A Young Adult Dystopian Series eBook TC Edge

When I saw advertisements for "The Enhanced" that proclaimed Brie as the next Katniss, I was skeptical. When I read the book, I found that my skepticism was right on the money--but not for the reasons you'd think.

Brie Melrose is intelligent, brave, and curious, but never sacrifices what makes her human--her emotional side. We see as she transforms through the book from an almost subservient, polite girl to someone who is savvy and cynical. In the past, heroines like her have been praised as being feminist icons, no one has really met the mark the way Brie does, because Edge understands that a heroine doesn't have to have only "stereotypically male" traits and makes Brie a medley of personality.

I would have given the book five stars save for a few things:
-being the first book in a long series, it takes a while to feel like we have moved out of "exposition" mode. Even the end feels somewhat expository.
-some of the "twists" were very predictable. Without adding spoilers, I will say that I spotted Brie's secrets from a mile away-who she is related to, what she is, her diabetes medicine, as well as who the terrorists are.
-there weren't many (or any) side plots, but that's to be expected in first person perspective.
-Some parts are repeated a few times, and there are about ten typos throughout the book.

On the other hand, this book does a great job with:
-designing and remaining faithful to an intricate world
-creating believable and unique characters
-crafting an engaging storyline
-using vivid imagery
-not giving into writing it into a hackneyed love story

Great job to T.C. Edge overall.

The Enhanced Book One in The Enhanced Series A Young Adult Dystopian Series eBook TC Edge Reviews

This book moved smoothly with. No lags. It is very orginal and takes you different directions than you think. I rarely buy men writers. Maybe that's sexist, but personally I don't feel they are as emotionally invested as women. They are more descriptive. I love to read and get lost in the book and feel what they feel. And this book did that. I didn't even know the writer was a guy til I saw about the author and then it took me by surprise. Also his name is Toby and that's my pug's name. Lol
Pros Fairly well written, realistic main character, moments of very good writing, and overall what I would expect from a YA dystopia. It wasn't so drenched in cliches I was gagging, which is always a plus. I liked the premise of the story, the setup of the city, and the main conflict. Now that much of the exposition is out of the way, I feel we are well set up for the next adventure.

Cons (mostly spoiler free) Predictable, mostly in that I figured out the main secret within the first two chapters and figured out the twist ending a few chapters after relevant characters were introduced. There were a few minor spelling/grammar errors but nothing awful. There were also a few plot points that just didn't seem believable from a purely logical/factual perspective, but none so bad that they ruined the story.
Honestly, I purchased this completely by accident. I'd finished a different dystopian novel and was scrolling through similar suggested novels late one night when I fell asleep. I woke up when my phone smacked me in the face as it fell from my hand.
As I decided probably time to put the phone down I noticed a " purchase verified". Oops. But after reading the description it did sound intriguing.
After reading it I must say its the best accidental purchase I could have made.
This one is heavy on the plot, and really builds the characters well. In the first book he did an excellent job letting you know how she thinks and why. Which is a great set up to explain whatever future choice he has planned in book 2.

Very different world building from those I've read before. What at surface appears to be a rich vs poor society, is actually 3 layer deep instead off two. Free poor, well-dressed enslaved, and rulers.

Interested to see where this goes next. And I gotta say, the twist at the end was brilliant. I didn't see it coming at all, and yet it made perfect sense. That's really hard to do, so my respect to the author.
I have read some reviews which are critical of the series suggesting that the outcome is predictable. I have found that in the dystopian world that many stories are indeed predictable, although some will through you some curve balls. I feel that in this genre the process of tale is much more interesting and lends itself to the authors to build characters and environments. As such I feel this series is very good, although perhaps a little drawn out. My critique would suggest that you must realize the book was written in the UK and as such sentence structure is a little different. On the other hand I came across several misspellings, missing words, and grammatical incorrect sentences. This is something that just catches my attention and feel there may well be some job openings for editors if you're interested. Just sayin'.
The book was exciting and I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. The book takes place in a future society split between the Enhanced and Unenhanced and follows the life of an orphan discovering what is really happening in her society. The author shows her growing as a character and uses detailed descriptions to show imagery that helps you get hooked into the society and bring you there as if you are right next to Brie, the main character. The characters are interesting and realistic, as is the future society. I am very much into reading dystopian, science fiction, and fantasy and this book hit the spot and didn't disappoint! I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
I'm a huge fan of the dystopia genre and this book did not disappoint. The concept of genetic enhancement and alteration is intriguing. The story line centralizes around an advanced human race in a city divided, following the last Great War that just decimated the Earth. The ending left me unsatisfied, but I was very happy the second book became available not long after I finished it.
